'HUNKS FROM HISTORY AND BROTHERLY NON-LOVE ARE
'JOSEPH'S' DELIGHTS' Evergreen Theater's production of
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" could give sibling rivalry a good name. It's all right out of the Good Book, all rollicking good fun. Evergreen's strong production... achieve[s] a campy and comical hunks-from- history look. Stephen D. Locklear's burlesque-at-its-best directing... convince[s] us the brotherly non-love is all in good fun. Snappily presented... Blessedly free of Santas, Scrooges, and Wise Men in bathrobes, "Joseph" is exhilarating, colorful holiday entertainment. Joe Adcock, Seattle Post-Intelligence

'GOOD VIBES, BRIGHT COLORS FUEL WHIMSICAL HOLIDAY
OFFERING' ... such is the infectious joy in this production
directed by Stephen Locklear, that every one of its 90 minutes is filled with good vibrations. ...looking like parchment filled in with Crayolas, adds a perfect touch of whimsy to ...match the ebullience of the actors beat by beat. Karen Mathieson, Special to The Seattle

''JOSEPH', A FUN SHOW' "I
was looking for kind of a cartoon effect with this show," said director
Stephen Locklear,
in a post-play discussion... He succeeded. The Evergreen Theatre Company production of Joseph is ...the pure tight fun of a good cartoon. ...a bright, highly stylized set, with a backdrop painted as a map of the world much like the well-known one from the cover of the New Yorker, but this time showing Israel and Egypt as the center of the world. ...a simple recitation of the plot gives little of the feel of the show... the audience loved to watch... the performance was so bright and cheerful, ...the show is quite enjoyable. {Joseph} is selling out fast, so if you want to catch this fun show you'll have to hurry. Just a quick note to tell you all how much I
enjoyed opening night of your show! Thursday night was some of the most
fun I've
had at a show in years!! I'm entranced by the whole thing! I wish the show could run much longer than a few weeks - I'd be back to see it at least once a week! The whole cast is musically and visually appealing, and the staging and choreography are charming! The set, as usual with an ETC production, is imaginative and versatile. I would hate to single out performances. Everyone in the cast brings tremendous personality to their various characters, and they come across to the audience in a spectacular way. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you all for a wonderful time the other night, and I'm looking forward to doing it again very soon! And congratulations to all of you, both on stage and off, for a job incredibly well done! This is an excerpt from a letter to the company
